Recap: Toyota Motor Philippines holds another successful Gazoo Racing PH Cup

Racers braved cloudy skies to give fans a thrilling weekend

Last September 28, 2024, racers and fans congregated at the Clark International Speedway for the second weekend of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup. The track saw young guns and seasoned drivers race passionately race bumper-to-bumper, while fans cheered on as they watched on the edge of their seats.

Between races, fans were treated to a racing simulator, an opportunity to drive with renowned drifters, a live performance by Barbie Almalbis, and many more fun activities for racing lovers. Not to mention the various giveaways from the race’s sponsors.

The second weekend of the TGR Philippine Cup also hosted a Car Club Track Day, an event where Toyota club members could showcase their cars, rev their engines, and drive some hot laps around the track.

In spite of the shifting weather conditions, all the drivers put on exciting races for the fans. Toyota Motor Philippines president Masando Hashimoto perfectly summarized the atmosphere of the event in his remarks: “I am reminded of Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda’s rallying cry of “We Love Cars,” and can confidently say that motorsports is well and alive in the Philippines, and it will only get bigger with your support and passion.”

The third and final weekend of the TGR Philippine Cup will take place on November 9, 2024.

Winners of the TGR Philippine Cup Weekend 2:

Sprint Race 1 had Toyota Gazoo Racing PH dominate the races. In the Novice Class, Jamil Lacuna finished first, while in the Promotional Class, Ryan Agoncillo took first place. Kody Ng made an impressive debut by finishing first in the Sporting Class. On the flipside, Iñigo Anton from Toyota Balintawak-Obengers Racing Team took the top spot in the Super Sporting Class.

The next race, Sprint Race 2, kept the adrenaline flowing, with Russel Reyes ruling the Novice Class. Johndale Dy, representing Toyota Team Cebu, captured the top spot in the Promotional Class, as Raymond Cudala claimed first in the Sporting Class. Finally, Iñigo Anton took first again in the Super Sporting Class.

To cap off a day of racing, in the Endurance Race, Russel Reyes returned to the top of the Novice Class podium as Reph Bangsil and John Rey San Diego finished second and third, respectively. Bong Garbes took home the win in the Promotional Class, and Jiro Garbes won in the Sporting Class. Iñigo Anton once again finished first in the Super Sporting Class.
