Toyota Motor Philippines is bent on organizing a one-make race for customers next year starring the newly launched Vios, a source within the company confirmed to TopGear.com.ph. The Japanese carmaker is also said to be tapping the services of Tuason Racing School to put together the event as well as provide training to the participants.
According to our source, TMP is doing this not just to inject the brand\'s image with much-needed sportiness but also to give a handful of customers a chance to experience wheel-to-wheel racing in a convenient and affordable way. The idea is to sell race-equipped Vios units to customers at \"less than a million bucks\" each. The modification will include original TRD parts as well as TMP-commissioned tweaks.
The purchase of a race-prepped Vios comes with free race training under the tutelage of TRS instructors.
TMP is reportedly considering a 35-car grid at Clark International Speedway for next year\'s racing series, which is tentatively called the Vios Cup.
Now, before the full-scale series in 2014, TMP is supposedly doing a promotional version this year featuring media and show-business personalities. According to our source, Toyota will hold a Vios race in October, which will pit five journalists and five celebrities against each other. The carmaker, our source added, has earmarked 12 units for this purpose, with two units serving as backup cars.
So, who wants to race the new Vios?
