On May 19, as a run-up to the Nurburgring 24-hour endurance race, Michael Schumacher will do a demonstration lap around the famed Nordschleife circuit in a modern Formula 1 car as his way of thanking his fans for supporting him during his F1 career.
In July 2011, Schumacher drove a section of the Nordschleife in a Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow Stromlinie W196--the same car that gave the German carmaker its first two world titles in the 1954 and 1955 seasons with Juan Manuel Fangio behind the wheel.
As it so happens, Schumacher\'s run around the Nordschleife in May in a 2011 season-spec\'d Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W02 will be the first time that a modern F1 Silver Arrow race car will be driven on the track since Fangio\'s victory at the 1954 German Grand Prix.
\"I have a lot of fond memories of the Nurburgring and am really looking forward to giving fans and friends from my hometown of Kerpen, which is quite close to the Nurburgring, something to remember as they see me drive by,\" said Schumacher. \"But it will be a fantastic experience for me, too, driving along the Nordschleife in a state-of-the-art Formula 1 Silver Arrow, particularly in view of the fact that the Silver Arrow\'s legend began here. Posting a lap in a modern Silver Arrow on the most beautiful and most testing circuit in the world--what a brilliant mix--is every motor racing driver\'s dream!\"
