Subaru to unveil Impreza XV in Geneva

A new crossover vehicle is ready to invade Europe
Feb 7, 2010

Subaru, the quirky Japanese carmaker that specializes in all-wheel drive cars, is set to unveil an all-new crossover model at the Geneva International Motor Show in March.

Although Subaru already has an Impreza-based crossover vehicle in the Forester, the new crossover model will be called Subaru Impreza XV as it will be based entirely on the five-door Impreza hatchback's platform.

The Impreza XV is still under wraps but the Subaru said it will be distinctly different from its more plebian variants with its exclusively designed front grille and wheel arches, along with roof rails and a roof spoiler.

The Impreza XV will be available with a flat-four boxer engine that is fully-compliant with EURO 5 emission regulations. It comes in gasoline and diesel variants.

Subaru is calling the Impreza XV's unveiling in Geneva a world premier. How it is more than just cosmetically different from the Outback Sport currently being sold in the United States remains to be seen.
