Zedrick Ivan Honorica, Philippine team cyclist and food-delivery rider, has broken the national record for the 200m Men’s Elite Sprint. The 21-year-old made his debut at the 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships at the Tagaytay City Velodrome, and finished with a sprint time of 10.865sec, breaking the national record by almost one second.
The previous record was held by Jan Paul Morales, who set a time of 11.424sec at the 2006 Doha Asian Games. The record stood for 20 years before being overtaken by Honorica. But what made this new record even more impressive was the equipment Honorica used to achieve it.

While international competitors arrived with bike setups worth millions of pesos, Honorica used a Brain fixie frame worth P2,500 paired with a deep-section wheelset worth P12,500—a setup he built with money earned from delivering food as a foodpanda rider.

Honorica said that he saw the informal tryouts on a Facebook post in January, in which he finished second, and eventually led him to compete at the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC)-organized event. Before his debut, his experience with racing was only through drag sprints against his friends.
In the same weekend, paracyclist Patrick Gerard Lee crossed the line with a bronze medal finish in the 10km scratch race under the C5 category. “I pushed and pushed myself. It was a very tough race,” said Lee. “I’m really very happy because it’s for our country.” The third-place finish will earn him points in qualification for the 2028 Summer Paralympics in Los Angeles, California.
This weekend showed what Filipino athletes can do in the world of cycling. Now, imagine what these riders can achieve with more sponsors. Hopefully, we see more support in the future so that these athletes can further showcase their skills on the global stage.
