There’s a war brewing. But don’t worry, because this isn’t the destructive kind that will ruin lives. It might hurt your wallet, though.
Ever since the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act was passed into law, one type of vehicle has slowly gained prominence because of its exclusion from the new tax scheme. Pickups, according to the law, are utility tools and are thus exempt from excise tax. So naturally, the country’s top carmakers have been looking to capitalize. Some have gone out of their way to introduce pickups to their lineups for the first time, while those who already sell the trucks have updated their offerings.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines recently launched its new offensive into the warzone: the refreshed Strada. Aside from giving its pickup a more macho look (featuring the divisive Dynamic Shield design), the Japanese brand has tweaked a few things, particularly with regard to handling and ride comfort. The Strada is entering into battle with a few strong rivals, some with recent facelifts and new variants of their own.
