A few Filipino automotive designers have made names for themselves across the industry over the years, and one of them is Wini Camacho. You may be familiar with his creations—we’ve featured some of them on our website before.

Camacho worked as a designer at Mercedes-Benz for 27 years, and he shared that he has had this ambition of designing a BMW. This ambition has now become reality (sort of), as he has just released this BMW Z/Z Concept.

Camacho’s goal was not just to design any car, but a “radical reinterpretation of the brand’s roadster lineage.” True enough, this concept car is very much that. It’s supposedly independent of the German brand’s Neue Klasse design language and follows Camacho’s own ‘•’ philosophy, which is “a pursuit of absolute purity.”

The end product is this futuristic-looking, high-performance electric roadster built for both road and track use. The design is anchored on BMW’s iconic kidney grille, from which the ‘twin-bodied’ architecture of the Z/Z Concept came.

Speaking of which, the Z/Z itself explains the story behind the concept. The first Z is in line with BMW’s roadster lineup, while the second stands for Zwillinge, the German word for ‘twins.’ the slash in the middle resembles the physical division of the car into two equal parts.

The car’s cockpit features both analog and digital controls, with the goal of “minimizing clutter while maximizing immersion.” There’s a helmet-mounted display, which can be navigated through steering-wheel controls and voice commands.

The vehicle also has three different modes pictured below: 0, Mono, and Duo. 0 stands for sleep, which retracts all of the car’s elements. Mono opens the driver’s cockpit, while Duo opens up the passenger seat.

Camacho has also designed two different versions: a road-going one and an M variant. The latter gets aero kits and performance tuning, in true BMW M fashion.

“All of these add up to a concept that, paradoxically, feels both deeply rooted in BMW identity, and at the same time, completely unconstrained by it—a clean, radical exploration of what a modern electric roadster could be.”

Radical is the correct word, indeed. Your thoughts on this concept, readers? Check out more photos of it below. Do you think BMW should consider building something like this in the future, concept or otherwise?
