Israel Adesanya is one of the most exciting champions in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) right now. The Nigerian-born middleweight’s sharp tongue is bested only by his sublime striking skills inside the Octagon, the likes of which we haven’t seen since the glory days of Anderson Silva. With an unbeaten MMA record and a vast kickboxing background to his name, ‘The Last Stylebender’ is poised to become the next big thing in the sport.
And yet, none of those promising qualities were on display during his last fight in Las Vegas. In the main event at UFC 248, a whole lot of nothing took place as Adesanya defended his title in a boring affair against the usually explosive Yoel Romero. The hype and trask talk leading up the contest were all in place, but in the end, all we got was a massive letdown on the biggest stage. Shame.
Well, at least we have this video to remind us how exciting Adesanya can be. Here, the New Zealand-based fighter takes to the track in his McLaren 720s Spider, which he’s nicknamed ‘Kurama’ after the creature from Naruto. While the champ is technically inside the car, he leaves the actual driving to an expert driver so he can experience the car’s full potential. Yeah, the title of the video is a bit misleading, but it’s cool to see a UFC champ be so enthusiastic about his supercar. And one thing’s for sure—this short snippet is way more entertaining than the entire Romero fight.
