It’s no secret that John Cena is a huge fan of the Honda Civic Type R. He’s posted it on an Instagram page, and he’s professed his love for it during an episode of the Whisky Ginger with Andrew Santino podcast.
“It's got tech, it's manual, it's reliable. It's a 2020 and it's got a third pedal. At 145 mph (230+kph) it's stable. It's got seats in the back, I can actually pick people up,” said the actor and wrestler. The best past is, he daily drives it.

At this point, you’re probably wondering when Cena would trade up to the all-new FL5 Type R. Well, you don’t have to wonder anymore as he just picked up his brand new R recently. In a post by Cena himself, you can see him (yes, you really can) with a beaming smile beside his Championship White example.
“What a day! Brought my ‘21 Civic Type R in for service and saw brand new Honda ‘24 Type R and fell in love! Thanks to the folks @WC_Honda (West Chapel Honda in Tampa, Florida) for all the help and some more horsepower! For those asking, yes my ‘21 Boost Blue Civic is there now and looking for a new home,” said Cena in a Twitter post.
Cena didn’t mention any special options added to his Type R, so we’re assuming it’s straight from the dealership’s inventory. Judging by his hold Boost Blue FK8, the actor’s FL5 will likely stay stock (or close to stock) for a while. After all, this is a man who dailies hot hatches.

We can’t help but give mad props to the man. Yes, he owns other cars, but choosing Civic Type R for a daily instead of a flashy SUV like most celebs do is a car enthusiast move. Cena isn’t just some celeb who’s loaded, the man is a true petrolhead. Some of the cars in his stable include a restomodded 1969 MGB, an incredibly rare 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro, and a Rolls-Royce Phantom VII.
As for his latest acquisition, the Honda Civic Type R boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged mill. It makes a little bit more power compared to his previous R as the FL5 makes 315hp and 420Nm of torque. We’d like to think that he’s glad that the FL5 only comes with one transmission choice, a six-speed manual. It’s awesome that he’s part of the #savethemanuals movement with this purchase, too.
