If you're after a no-frills daily driver that's economic to run and practical to maintain, a compact sedan isn't a bad way to go. Just count the number of Toyota Altis units on the road. Compact sedans with a premium badge, though, are a different matter.
The car featured here is the Lexus IS350. On paper, it shares Japanese DNA with regular Toyotas like the Altis, but is cut from an entirely different mold. It features subtle but head-turning lines, complemented by the trademark accordion grille. Its stance is lower than it first appears, giving it a slightly athletic feel.
Inside, you're greeted by a leather-lined interior that's soft to the touch and comfortable to be in. Meanwhile, the car is propelled by a 3.5-liter V6 with over 300hp but little to offer in terms of fuel economy. And yet, you realize that this rear-wheel-drive sedan is much better at trotting along at a steady speed than it is roaring down a track or open stretch of road. Luxury, the car seems to be saying, isn't necessarily about performance. It's also about providing the driver and passengers with a ride they're sure to enjoy.
