NBA G Leaguer Mac McClung sealed his third consecutive NBA All-Star Dunk Contest title after dunking over a Kia K5. This makes him the first player to win three dunk contests in a row, and the second to jump over a Kia. If you remember, Blake Griffin dunked over an Optima almost 14 years ago.

However, we’d argue that McClung’s slam was in a league of its own. For starters, he caught the ball from the sunroof of the Kia K5. While we don’t know his exact vertical leap, he more than cleared the K5’s 1,445mm height. Griffin, on the other hand, leaped over the Optima’s hood, which is the shortest part of the car. Still an impressive dunk, but our assistant managing editor Leandre Grecia says otherwise. And speaking of short, McClung is also way smaller than Griffin, standing at around 6’2, compared to Griffin’s 6’9 height.

It’s no wonder McClung scored a perfect 50 on that particular dunk. In fact, he scored 50s on all his dunks in this year’s contest.

Sadly, we don’t have the Kia K5 in our local market. To put that height into context, that’s taller than the Honda Civic—1,415mm, but shorter than the Toyota Vios—1,475mm. The ball was positioned from someone standing through the sunroof, which added more millimeters to the overall height of the jump. Crazy.

After the dunk contest, videos circulated around YouTube and TikTok of McClung’s practice runs. In the videos, it looked like he practiced his dunk with a Subaru WRX sedan. It’s unclear whether it’s an STI, but the car is actually taller than the Kia K5—standing at 1,465mm.

It was also announced that McClung will be donating the K5 he jumped over to a foundation based in his hometown of Gate City, Virginia.

There are some rumors of McClung thinking of retiring from the dunk contest after dominating these past three seasons. McClung is only 26 years old and has yet to make an official NBA roster for a full season. Maybe his impressive dunking will finally secure him a guaranteed contract, or at least a Kia endorsement deal.
