Have you seen? The Mitsubishi Versa Van is back. Not in Toyota Tamaraw fashion, wherein an entirely new model revives the old nameplate, but Nissan Livina-style, where an existing model gets a rebadge.
Interestingly, the new Versa Van is a Nissan—an Urvan, to be exact. Mitsubishi is now selling it as a one-variant, commuter-oriented van. We dropped by AMCAR Mitsubishi Sta. Rosa to take a closer look.

In case you missed it (or you didn’t click the link above), the Versa Van is priced at P1.649 million. It’s a 15-seater vehicle with benches and jump seats on all four rows at the rear. It’s powered by a 2.5-liter turbodiesel pushing out 127hp and 356Nm and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

It’s as bare as vans can get. It’s more of a commuter van than it is a family car for road trips. Halogen headlamps up front, manually adjustable side mirrors, and 15-inch steelies with hub caps underneath. The front end still looks much like an Urvan, only the grille has been replaced with black plastics and, of course, a Mitsubishi badge has been placed in the middle.
On the inside, it’s full of hard plastics up front and barely any insulation at the rear. There’s a familiar, modern Mitsubishi steering wheel, but that’s about as modern as the interior goes. There’s a 1DIN stereo, manual A/C controls, and a parking brake under the dash. Quite interestingly, however, it has power windows up front.

As with any van, the stick shift is mounted just below the dashboard itself to open up space for a possible third passenger in the first row. The engine, meanwhile, is directly underneath the driver’s seat and can be accessed by folding said seat.
