The Philippines and Tamiya, everyone’s favorite scale model manufacturer, have a pretty tight relationship. Need proof? Not only does the brand continue to maintain a strong following among both hobbyists and car enthusiasts, there’s also an actual Tamiya factory located in Cebu, too.

From time to time, the manufacturer also produces special-edition models in limited quantities specifically for the Philippines. For example, it came up with a Philippine Edition ‘Gunbluster XTO’ Mini 4WD to commemorate Lil’s Hobby Center’s 50th anniversary last year.

Now, The Brickyard has announced another special release exclusive to our market: a Mini 4WD version of the iconic Philippine jeepney dubbed the ‘Dyipne.’ Check it out:

“To commemorate the Asia Challenge 2019 In Manila, brought to you by Lil’s Hobby Center, the Brickyard and Tamiya, a Philippine icon immortalized in a Mini 4WD kit,” The Brickyard’s announcement reads. “It is about time!”

There are a few neat details here worth mentioning. The yellow license plate reads ‘AC2019’ in line with the release’s Asia Challenge 2019 theme, and by the looks of the decals, this model runs on an FM-A chassis.

Its shell also flaunts some nice attention to detail. Obviously, there’s the over-the-top paint job and the iconic fenders and front end, but it also comes equipped with a trio of stallions up on the hood. The unit shown in the photo plies the Quiapo-Makati route, too.

If you’re interested, the Dyipne will arrive in the Philippines on June 6, 2019. No word yet on how much these will go for and how much stock is available, so keep an eye out for further updates. What vehicle do you think Tamiya should make a special edition of next?
