The eco-friendly TOM scooter is like an electric Honda Motocompo

Remember the Honda Motocompo? We reckon a lot of you do. It was a mobility solution that was ahead of its time, and it doesn’t come as a surprise that many have tried replicating the two-wheeler over the years.

There’s another new creation that we think could be a worthy successor to Honda’s compact folding scooter: the TOM. While this foldable electric scooter isn’t backed up by a massive Japanese carmaker and is only being built by humble startup ToMove, it’s everything that a modern Motocompo should be. Sleek, portable, and of course, environment-friendly.

ToMove claims that it has taken the necessary steps to reduce the environmental impact no just during usage but also of the production of each TOM unit. The bike is 100% handmade in Italy, and each model is only made up of 10% plastic. It features an aluminum frame with a bamboo shell that, mind you, is easily customizable.

Moving on from all the eco-friendly facts, the TOM is powered by a 750Wh battery that enables a maximum range of about 50km and a top speed of 45kph. The small scooter is street-legal—it’ll fall under the L1b category here in the Philippines—and can power through climbs as steep as 18 degrees. As mentioned, it’s also foldable, too, and can fit the trunks of most cars. It will then take just about seven seconds to open it up.

Other features of the TOM include the adjustable handlebar, the dual suspension setup, and the connectivity features available via a smartphone app. Said app lets users track the scooter and monitor its status.

We’ve seen one small electric scooter after the other arrive over the past few years. Do you think the TOM is also something we could use here in our market?
