We love snail mail, a rarity in the age of the Internet. That being said, even if Top Gear PH is 100% digital now, we are surprised that we still get handwritten letters. The last one we received came from Davao. This latest one was mailed from much closer. Here’s a letter from Bill Vail. We are typing it out in full, with a few minor edits:
Dear Sirs, Madam,
A quick note to say how much I enjoy Top Gear.
About me. I am a 79-year-old retired commercial pilot. I was also an Alaskan bush pilot and flight instructor for Lufthansa Airlines.
My first car bought in 1957 was a 1949 Ford with a V8 flathead and three-speed manual with overdrive. That is the equivalent of a six-speed tranny and push-button start today. In my 79 years, I have owned 41 cars and trucks, and overhauled four or five engines.
One thought: Car manufacturers should print supplements to the owner’s handbook for the country that the vehicle is sold in. Twice I’ve had to drain oil out from a new car because it was too full. Even if the handbook states “Do Not ” in English.
