As the Philippines eagerly anticipates the official debut of the reborn Toyota Tamaraw, aftermarket specialists in Thailand are already going crazy with it. Dubbed the Hilux Champ over there, it has been converted into a mobile diner, coffee shop, and more.
Given its rugged appearance, it’s inevitable that some have turned it into an overlanding vehicle. But one conversion from Carryboy recently caught our attention.

You can forget about setting up a tent in a campsite with this particular version. That’s because Carryboy turned the Tamaraw into a mobile home, complete with all the trappings one expects from, er, home. We wouldn’t mind living off-grid with one of these.
The Toyota Tamaraw motorhome uses the cab and chassis variant as its base. With that, Carryboy had the freedom of putting a massive composite body at the back. The box measures around five meters long, two meters wide, and ‘under three meters tall’ to comply with Thailand’s laws regarding these kinds of vehicles.

Exterior highlights include extended exterior mirrors, a skyview roof, and even a power awning system. But this is a mobile home we’re talking about, so there’s much more to it than that. Pop-out windows let the breeze into the cabin, while the ladder can bring a few people up the roof/viewing deck.
There’s also a slide-out cookout built-in the motorhome, as well as a sink. And yes, it comes with attachments to fit a propane tank take plus a large 120-liter tank for fresh water supply.

Obviously, it won’t be a mansion inside, but there’s more than enough space inside to move around. In normal operation, the rear section serves as a living room and dining room. But when it’s time to go to sleep, the couches can be turned into beds. Two passenger can get some shut eye in the ‘first floor’ of this camper, while the top extension can take in two more.
The interior motif will depend on the customer’s preference. That said, there is a choice of two colors, two-tone light wood or two-tone dark wood. As always with these house on wheels, there are stacks of cabinets and storage spaces in the living quarters. A bathroom is included in the package with a shower that even comes with heating.
