The hype is real.
Ford v. Ferrari’s first trailer has just dropped, and it’s every bit as good as you’d expect from a production featuring Christian Bale and Matt Damon in the lead roles, and James Mangold (Logan, Walk the Line) in the director’s chair. Look:
Bale plays British-born American Ken Miles, and Damon portrays the Carroll Shelby—two names integral to the creation of the GT40, Ford’s weapon in its quest to put an end to Ferrari’s motorsport dominance in the ’60s. The film follows both characters throughout the development of the iconic American supercar, and also features Jon Bernthal (Punisher) as auto executive Lee Iacocca.
From what we’ve seen so far, this is going to be the movie for car guys to watch come the latter half of 2019. The racing scenes looks superb, and it appears the majority of the track sequences were churned out without the help of CGI—save for some pretty intense-looking car crashes about midway through the trailer. And of course, there’s some excellent old-school car porn, too.
We can’t wait to see how the GT40’s legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans victory plays out on the big screen. Ford v. Ferrari hits theaters on November 15, 2019. See you in the ticket queue.
