Fell asleep on the bus and missed your stop? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Every commuter knows this. Sleeping on the bus is normal. Sleeping past your stop is a pretty common scenario.
But to fall into way too deep of a nap only to wake up several towns later and miss an appointment? Core memory, dude.
In the case of this student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), that’s precisely what happened. And that core memory just went viral.

Assistant professor Maurice Duka from UPLB recently shared on Facebook screenshots of texts from his student who supposedly overslept and missed his stop at Los Baños and almost woke up in Sta. Cruz, ultimately missing his class. For context, the bus stops between those two towns in Laguna are about 26km and more than 30 minutes apart.
The student’s text read: “Good day po Sir Mau! Apologies po for not making it to class today. I tried to be [in] Los Baños before 10am but dozed off [on] the bus and I almost reached [Sta.] Cruz. Apologies, Sir.”
To that, the professor just replied: “That’s crazy.” Sarcastically, we assume.
Okay, so the text implies the student didn’t exactly reach Sta. Cruz, but that could mean he woke up in any of the three towns in between that and Los Baños. But whatever the case may be, we reckon the kid was just probably dead tired from all the schoolwork at the university and needed some rest. In this case, ’twas just a costly one.
All that being said, I actually think the story’s believable. The exact same thing happened to my brother more than a decade ago—my parents had to drive from Los Baños to Sta. Cruz on a late Friday night just to pick him up there. Yes, that’s crazy.
