Less than a week ago, we reported that the brains behind the Transformers and Back to the Future franchises were teaming up to for a special-edition release in celebration of the latter’s 35th anniversary. Well, it’s July 3rd now, and the result of the two pop culture behemoths’ collaboration has just dropped.—and it’s awesome.
Oh, and the release is limited to just 1,985 units at Walmart. Why only 1,985? Well, we’re assuming it’s because the film hit theaters in 1985. At this point, we expect the hardcore fans reading this are already contacting their friends and relatives in the US.
If you’re an ’80s kid, this is pretty much a no-brainer. Basically, it’s the DeLorean DMC-12 from the Back to the Future trilogy, but it transforms into an Autobot named Gigawatt.
Save for the unpainted windshield, the attention to detail here is impressive. In Autobot form, the figure shows off the vehicle’s flux capacitor and the dates Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to in the past, present, and future in the three Back to the Future films.
We tried searching for the toy on the Walmart website, but it isn’t listed at the moment. The official Back to the Future Trilogy Facebook page commented on a post that Walmart is currently having issues with its website and that the company is already working on getting it fixed. Hopefully, there will still be units left once the listing goes back online.
Frankly, if you’re a fan, you’re buying this no matter what you think of this toy’s look. So, what do you think of Gigawatt?
