In case you missed the news, construction on the new Kamuning Footbridge and renovated EDSA Busway station has been completed, and the area is now open to commuters. While the original Mt. Kamuning footbridge still stands, this new footbridge provides a safer, more pedestrian-friendly structure that offers improved mobility features for commuters.

The main station provides a direct stairway link between the busway platform and the GMA Kamuning MRT-3 station, allowing passengers to transfer more easily from the EDSA Busway and the MRT-3.
We recently took the bus carousel from SM North EDSA Busway Station to Kamuning to check it out. For those unfamiliar with the area or who don’t regularly commute, you can find this station right across Victoria Sports Tower and near GMA, along EDSA in Quezon City.

The busway and footbridge are located just a few meters away from the infamous Mt. Kamuning, the towering footbridge near the corner of EDSA and Kamuning Road. You can get a good view of the older and steeper footbridge from the new concourse.

This new footbridge provides better accessibility for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other commuters. The flight of stairs leading up to the new footbridge is much lower and easier to scale at just 5.3 meters high, compared to Mt. Kamuning’s Stairway to Heaven, which is nine meters tall.

The new footbridge also takes into account the mobility needs of wheelchair users. For now, there are working wheelchair lifts on both sides of the bridge for those who can’t use stairs, including seniors and PWDs.
Features of the completed busway station are pretty close to the original design and artistic renders. On the station floor, you can find a few benches, potted plants, and several large, readable signs. The whole walkway is shaded with wider overhangs that should better protect commuters from the sun and rain. The entire footbridge itself is a covered walkway instead of just stairs.

The waiting sheds at the busway station have also been replaced. The renovated station now boasts clean surroundings and modern wooden design elements. Clear signs indicating the loading areas are posted around the busway. There’s also a large transit route map of the EDSA Busway, an updated fare matrix, and digital clocks showing the time.
Passengers can also find dedicated security stations and personal outposts, and tactile tiles to assist visually impaired passengers.

From the busway station, you can climb up two sets of stairs that lead directly to the northbound and southbound sides of the MRT-3 station to exit out of the station if you don’t need to ride, at least for now.
According to the security guard stationed near the stairs, the entrance may be closed during peak rush hours in the morning and evening to manage passenger flow, as the area for waiting passengers is too narrow to allow people to pass through the side. When we passed, there was a cordoned-off rope to separate passengers riding the MRT and those walking out from the busway, but it’s passable as an exit.

However, if the MRT gate is closed, you’ll still have to climb the stairs to get to the busway footbridge, go down the stairs on the sidewalk of EDSA, and then climb the stairs leading to the MRT entrance on either the northbound or southbound sides to properly switch rides between bus and train. You still need to pass the side to tap in properly at the turnstiles, buy tickets, or top up Beep cards to ride the MRT.
The construction of the Kamuning footbridge and busway station began sometime in August 2025 and was scheduled for completion last December. However, completion dates were pushed back, which led to the new stop opening in March 2026. It’s about time, right?

Similar improvements are expected in other busway stations as part of a wider EDSA Busway renovation project. Among the plans are renovations to the Monumento, Bagong Barrio, and Guadalupe EDSA Busway stations, and brand-new busway stations in Cubao, Magallanes, and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange. These new busways are expected to be completed by mid-2026.
