The EDSA-Kamuning footbridge, better known as Mt. Kamuning in Quezon City, is getting replaced, and we’re looking forward to seeing a brand-new, commuter-friendly footbridge very soon. The EDSA Busway is receiving several improvements in the near future, including a badly needed replacement of the notorious footbridge, and we’re all here for it.
This new concourse will replace the 30-foot-tall bridge dubbed Stairway to Heaven, which has been a subject of much ridicule in the past for its grueling climb for pedestrians and for not considering the needs of seniors and those with special mobility needs.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. previously ordered the replacement of the Mt. Kamuning footbridge, which was criticized for its height equivalent to four to five floors of a building.
The new concourse is also expected to decongest the nearby GMA-Kamuning MRT-3 station, as busway commuters currently need to enter and traverse through the station to reach the boarding area.
Here’s what we know about the ongoing improvements, including the latest completion date, what to expect from the station design, and how much this whole project costs.
When will the New Kamuning Footbridge be completed?

A new series of photos and videos shared by DOTr and the Philippine News Agency this week showed the latest construction updates of the Kamuning Station of the EDSA Busway and the footbridge.
Construction on the project, which began in October 2025, was originally expected to be completed by December 2025. However, it is now being eyed for completion by January 2026, according to the latest updates.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the project is expected to be completed by January, a month later than the original target.
As reported by The Daily Tribune, Transportation secretary Giovanni Lopez said the revised timeline allows engineers to implement thorough safety and accessibility measures.

How much does the new footbridge cost, and who is building it?

According to the Design and Build of the Kamuning Footbridge and Busway Project bidding documents publicly posted on the DOTr website, the project had an approved budget of P89,129,402.57. It was awarded to Unimasters Conglomeration, Inc.–Dragonheart Construction Enterprise, Inc., Joint Venture.
The budget covers station rehabilitation, a new footbridge with elevators and manlifts, engineers’ facilities, traffic management, and occupational safety measures.
For comparison, the MMDA built the original Kamuning footbridge in 2018 at a cost of P10 million. As cited in a report by The Philippine Star, “MMDA data shows that footbridges in Metro Manila typically cost between P5 million and P16 million each.”
Meanwhile, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy noted that footbridges cost more than twice as much to maintain compared to at-grade crosswalks.
Where is the New Kamuning Footbridge located?

The modern station and footbridge are situated along EDSA between NIA South and Scout Borromeo Street below the MRT-3 viaduct line and near the GMA-Kamuning MRT-3 Station. Nearby landmarks, as shown in the site key plan, include the Victoria Sports Tower and SMDC Glam Residences on the Southbound side and the DPWH Office and SMDC Property on the Northbound side.
What can pedestrians expect from the new Kamuning Footbridge?

The DOTr said that the Kamuning EDSA Busway concourse will be constructed similarly to the SM North EDSA Busway terminal—with pedestrian-friendly walkways and wheelchair lifts for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
Based on the design plans and renders, the upgraded station will feature independent footbridges on the northbound and southbound sides. Both sections will be equipped with elevators, covered stairways, and wheelchair lifters to make it easier and safer for passengers with mobility problems and senior citizens.

The proposed plan also indicates “enough clearance space for sidewalk/pedestrian pathwalks” and well-lit walkways. The Project Briefer on DOTr’s website shows that the Kamuning Footbridge and Busway Project will have an extended waiting shed and curved overhang, lighting fixtures, a proper station-made signage within the station platform for visibility. The station will also display transit maps and a fare matrix.
It will have a three-garbage bin compartment, security station pads, vertical louver screen, outdoor potted planters, customized bench seating, non-skid ceramic floor tiles, and tactile pavers (warning and directional).
Will the footbridge include a connection and access to the MRT-3 Concourse?

According to the Supplemental Bid Bulletin (SBB) No. 2025-01, the footbridge is envisioned to be independent from the MRT-3 Station.
The document states: “The footbridge construction will not provide shared access to the MRT-3 Station, as this is intended to be an independent infrastructure that will cater primarily to the EDSA Busway users to be directed to and from the Kamuning Busway.”
Furthermore, during the construction, station access of the contractor will be implemented through the EDSA Busway/bus lane and the adjacent lane of the curbside/sidewalk.
Traffic advisory: Partial lane and full lane closures in December (Southbound)

While the EDSA Busway shall remain operational 24/7, the DOTr advised motorists earlier this month that the EDSA Busway buses will temporarily skip the affected direction of the Kamuning Busway Station during the scheduled full road closure. This is being done to give way to the lifting and mobilization of steel components.
- Northbound: November 15-17, 2025 (1am to 4am)
- Southbound: December 11-15, 2025 (1am to 4am)

Busway passengers are advised to board or alight at the adjacent Quezon Avenue or Nepa Q-Mart Stations as alternative stations. The Kamuning busway will be rerouted during this period.
Meanwhile, partial lane closures (2 lanes) are expected from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am from December 9-10, 2025, and December 16-20, 2025. Expect heavier than usual traffic and plan your routes accordingly.
