Late last month, Yamaha Motor Philippines (YMPH) staged the virtual launch of the 2021 Mio Gear with a promise to make the first batch of units available by September. So, Top Bikes Philippines recently visited the Yamaha YZone at Greenfield District in Mandaluyong City to see if one of this year’s most anticipated introductions lives up to its billing.
Lo and behold, two units of the Mio Gear and its S variant took center stage at the showroom, and were surrounded by other bestsellers from the Mio family—the Sporty and Aerox. The units, as these photos show, were in Off White and Matte Gray. Keep reading and learn more about the exciting features of Yamaha’s latest offering:
1) Powertrain

The Mio Gear is powered by a 124.96cc SOHC engine that generates 9.3hp at 8,000rpm and 9.5Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. This tiny mill makes use of Yamaha’s signature Blue Core and Smart Generator tech for smooth yet powerful acceleration, as well as better fuel efficiency.
2) Fuel-tank capacity

The Gear and its S variant are fitted with a 4.2-liter tank, which can carry more than enough gas to take the rider around the city and elsewhere.
3) New features

The new scooter has a hazard lamp, a side-stand kill switch, stylish wheel graphics, a USB socket, a smart lock feature, and tubeless tires.
4) Safety add-ons

Built to be a workhorse, the Mio Gear is equipped with a pair of scratch-resistant side panels, forward footrests, two carrying hooks for grocery bags, and grippy footboards to keep the rider secured at all times.
5) Gear S exclusives

The higher variant gets additional features like the Yamaha Start and Stop System, a smart key with answer-back functionality, and premium body colors.
The 2021 Yamaha Mio Gear and Gear S are priced at P75,900 and P79,900, respectively.
