It appears the new engines are out at the 2024 Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA). BMW has its new 450cc concept, Ducati its new V2, Honda its new V3, and now CFMoto with its V4 powertrain.

This is perhaps part of CFMoto’s plans to enter MotoGP when the opportunity arises. It’s been dominating Moto3 as of late, and its up-and-coming rider David Alonso will eventually make further steps up the ladder en route to the highest level.

Okay, so back to the engine. Dubbed V.04, it will have a 90-degree configuration and a 997cc displacement. CFMoto has yet to share final figures, but it has revealed it will be able to produce over 212hp at 14,500rpm and a maximum of 114Nm of torque.

CFMoto claims the V4 is balanced, has minimal vibration and linear delivery, and is smooth. It’s also reportedly lightweight but doesn’t compromise on performance. This should be good—it has to be—as this is CFMoto’s first foray into the world of liter bikes. It’s a completely different territory for the brand, and regardless of which type of motorcycle will be using this engine, CFMoto has its work cut out for it.

If the Chinese manufacturer ends up using the engine in an adventure bike, it’ll take on various competition like the Honda Africa Twin, BMW GS, Ducati Multistrada, and Ducati DesertX. If it’s a supersport, there’s the Ninja, Panigale, the S1000R, or the Fireblade, among many others. If it’s a naked, there’s the CB1000R and the the Streetfighter as well.

Bottomline is, the big leagues isn’t a joke, and this engine better be good if CFMoto wants a fighting chance. But if the brand’s newest models in recent years are any indication, then we can only expect this promising engine to deliver once it hits mass production. CFMoto fans have many reasons to be excited.
