Stupidly big bikes aren’t unheard of. You’ve got a bike like the Honda Gold Wing—a boat on two wheels with an absurd six-cylinder gasoline engine. In terms of displacement, it’s not as big as the Triumph Rocket’s 2.5-liter triple, but it’s got twice the cylinders.

There’s a new bike that’s supposedly in the works, however, that’ll take the fight straight to the Gold Wing. According to multiple reports by Cycle World and Visordown, Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motor is in the process of building a flat-eight powertrain for a ‘Gold Wing competitor’ and a power cruiser. As if six cylinders weren’t enough, huh?

The photos Cycle World initially published showed sketches of the engine, and it’s said to be configured similarly to the Gold Wing’s flat-six. The publication shared that GWM chairman Wei Jianjun posted a video on social media featuring his Xiaomi S7 electric car, and in the background there was a partially covered, “finished-looking example of the upcoming eight-cylinder tourer.”

No details are confirmed yet, but the engine will reportedly be around 2,000cc. It might also use a dual-clutch transmission like the Gold Wing. The new bike isn’t expected to be launched under GWM, but it’s speculated that it might be unveiled to the public for the first time at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show (Auto China).

All might be revealed in a week or so, then. What does an eight-cylinder bike sound like to you, readers?
