Honda isn’t just about to be left out of the Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA) this year. On the contrary, the Japanese motorcycle might have one of the busiest displays of the show.

Honda has unveiled an all-new sport tourer in the CB1000GT, launched the fully electric WN7, and revealed its new V3-powered concept bike, the V3R 900 E-Compressor Prototype. Quite the display, we tell you.

For the purposes of this article, let’s focus on the sport tourer: the all-new Honda CB1000GT is somewhat a combination of the CB1000R and the CB500X. It features aggressive styling, with sharp-looking fairings adorning the front end. It has a large 21-liter fuel tank, a windshield up front, and an 825mm-high (32.5 inches) seat indicating that this is, in fact, intended for touring.

The CB1000GT packs the Hornet’s 1,000cc liquid-cooled in-line-four engine that produces 147.5hp at 11,000rpm and 102Nm of torque at 8,750rpm. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission with an assist/sliper clutch.  Honda claims this powertrain can yield 16.5km/L, which isn’t bad for a high-revving, high-output four-pot.

The bike weighs 229kg and has 135mm of ground clearance. It sits on 17-inch wheels, with dual disc brakes up front and a single disc at the back. Comfort is handled by Showa Electronically Equipped Ride Adjustment suspension that optimizes compression and rebound damping over different conditions. It bases damping on info on the bike’s speed from the ECU, on the stance and attitude from the six-axis inertial measurement unit or IMU, and on fork behavior from the stroke sensor.

Honda says the suspension control unit adjusts damping force within a mere 15 milliseconds of the calculations being made, which basically means it constantly adapts to the riding environment in real time. To add to the electronic aids, Honda has also made the saddle thicker to further enhance ride comfort.

Standard with the bike are the three levels of Honda Selectable Torque Control as well as three levels of engine power and engine braking. Four different ride modes—standard, sport, rain, tour—are also available, along with a customizable user option. Cornering ABS is also equipped here, as well as Honda RoadSync connectivity.

Unsurprisingly, a bunch of accessories are readily available for the CB1000GT. You can dress it up with the full-on tourer look if you want to. In any case, we’d like to hear your thoughts on this: Does the Honda CB1000GT have a place in our market? Should Honda Philippines consider launching this here? Chime in through the comments, please.
