Yamaha’s XSR family of sport heritage motorcycles continues to grow as the newest model has now been announced in Europe. First spotted by the eagle-eyed public in type approval documents, the XSR125 is now an official member of the lineup.

As its name suggests, it’s powered by a 125cc engine capable of 14.7hp. This punchy little single-cylinder, shared with the MT-125 naked bike and the YZF-R125 sportbike, is also equipped with all of Yamaha’s modern niceties, such as liquid cooling, Euro 5 compliance, and variable valve actuation (VVA). Yamaha’s VVA tech, which ensures ample torque even at low engine speeds, is also responsible for the smooth riding experience we’ve experienced on the XSR155.

Complementing the beginner-appropriate powerplant is a 37mm inverted fork, a lightweight Deltabox frame, front and rear ABS-equipped disc brakes, block-pattern tires, and an 11-liter fuel tank. LED illumination front and back is standard, as are the painted mudguards and the retro-styled tuck and roll seat.

With the availability of the XSR155 here in the Philippines, and the fact that Filipino motorcycle riders don’t need to deal with engine-displacement-based license restrictions, it i’s highly unlikely that the XSR125 will make it to our shores. What we do hope will come to our market are the model’s color options, which are Redline, Impact Yellow, and Tech Black. While the local-spec XSR155 already comes with some nifty paint schemes, the red and yellow paint jobs on the 125 look especially cool, and will probably attract newer riders’ attention.

Delivery of XSR125 units to European dealerships will start sometime in June 2021, with an on-road price of £4,450 or about P301,000.
