In December 2011, BMW and Toyota announced that they were joining forces to create next-generation environment-friendly technologies. By July 2012, both carmakers had extended their collaboration to include the "architecture and components for a sports vehicle."
Recently, both BMW and Toyota announced that they will set up a feasibility study to "define a joint platform concept for a midsize sports vehicle that is to be completed by the end of 2013."
"It is clear that cars must be exciting," said Toyota Motor Corporation vice chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada. "Driving one should be thrilling, the design should give you a glimpse of the future, and the environmental performance should be at the highest level. As such, we have decided to work together on such a car: a car fit to be called the sports car of the 21st century. We want to show the next generation the charm of automobiles and the fun of driving. We plan to announce specifications and other details within the year."
So, we'll have to wait until the end of the year to find out what this BMW-Toyota sports car will look like.
