The new Chevrolet Bolt EUV is an all-electric compact SUV with a 402km max range

Its smaller sibling, the Bolt EV, has an equally impressive 416km range

General Motors is finally done with all the teasers and has now pulled the wraps off the new Bolt. Or Bolts, rather.

See, GM has unveiled two Bolt models: the Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV. The former is a redesigned version of the popular electric hatchback, while the latter is essentially the said hatchback in compact SUV guise.

The EUV is six inches longer than the EV. But while the two use a similar architecture, GM says the designs are “unique” because no exterior sheet metal parts are shared between the two. The Bolt EUV has a more SUV-like physique with a center crease line that runs from the front fascia through the hood as well as roof rails up top. The Bolt EV has a more upright front fascia than before, plus some new front and rear lighting signatures.

The differences here are merely aesthetic, though, because the specs and features of these two are basically the same. Both are powered by a single-motor drive unit that generates 200hp and 360Nm of torque. With a 65kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Bolt EV boasts a maximum range of 416km on one full charge. The Bolt EUV can reach up to 402km with the same setup.

Both vehicles support Level 1 and Level 2 charging using a Dual Level Charge Cord that’s standard on the EUV and an added option on the EV. With DC fast-charging, the EV and the EUV can add up to 160km and 152km of range in 30 minutes, respectively.

These two also come with new instrument panels, seats, 10.2-inch infotainment systems with integrated climate controls and Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, eight-inch digital gauges, and electronic gearshifters inside the cabin. Both come standard, too, with the Chevy Safety Assist suite of features.

Now, apart from the roomier interior, what the bigger EUV gets that the smaller EV doesn’t are the panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats. and heated rear outboard seats. Also, the Bolt EUV also comes equipped with Super Cruise, making it the first Chevy to debut with “the industry’s first true hands-free driver assistance technology for enabled roads.”

Surprisingly, the 2022 Bolt EV is more affordable than its predecessor. It starts at $31,995 (P1.5 million), or about $5,000 down from the previous model. The 2022 Bolt EV, meanwhile, starts at $33,995 (P1.6 million).

“We’ve lowered Bolt EV’s base price by more than $5,000 from the 2021 model, proving our commitment to make EVs attainable for everyone,” said Chevrolet vice president Steve Hill.

“We want to put everyone in an EV and the new Bolt EUV and redesigned Bolt EV are crucial to doing so,” said GM president Mark Reuss. “Together, they enable mainstream customers to be part of our vison of zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion.”
