The second-generation Ford Territory isn’t an old model at all. If anything, it still looks fresh having come out in 2022. Landing in the Philippines in 2023, it’s also the newest model in the local stable.

But over in China, product cycles go by a little quicker. A model that’s just a few years old often gets a surprise update just to keep interest in the product high. That’s exactly what happened to the Territory over there.

Or should we say the Equator, or specifically, Equator Sport? That’s what the Territory is called over in China. Apparently, we can expect a facelifted model soon, but it wasn’t revealed by Ford. Instead, what you’re looking at file photos from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). In some ways, it’s a leak, but given that it’s a public document, it’s good as the real thing.

So, what’s new for the 2025 Ford Territory? The most obvious change is seen at the front end. The fascia has been totally redesigned for this facelift. Its headlights are now sleeker C-shaped units, while grille is slimmer and smaller than the present model. Because of all that, the bumpers have been smoothened out around the corners.

It appears that the rest of the body is carried over relatively unchanged. However, we do see a new set of alloy wheels in the model photographed by China’s MIIT. Also different is the rear bumper with the lower half getting a few tweaks here and there. There are no interior photos at the moment, but we’re expecting a new display in there.

Aside from the new look, the big news here is the powertrain. Per MIIT documents, a plug-in hybrid arrangement will be made available for the crossover. It pairs a 1.5-liter engine that makes 148hp to a single electric motor for a combined system output of 215hp. That said, the familiar 1.5-liter turbo carries on, still producing 168hp and 260Nm.

The stretched version of the Territory, dubbed the Equator, has also been given a major facelift. Like its shorter sibling, it gets a totally redesigned front end although the rear gets a comprehensive update too. Powertrain options are the same, but the bigger dimensions of the Equator means there’s room for an extra row over at the back. Now that’s a model that might be of interest in the Philippine market given the country’s love for seven-seaters.
