It’s not often a model gets a host up updates after its first full year on sale. However, that’s exactly what happened in the case of the Lexus GX. Production started in late 2023 for the 2024 model year, but it’s already getting a host of upgrades for 2025.

Well, that was fast. But that's not to say that the GX is lacking features. Instead, the improvements for 2025 are for added convenience and off-road capability.

Starting next year, the GX will come standard with power tilt-and-telescopic steering column. Not much of a big deal given that local models have it standard, but it’s a noteworthy addition nonetheless. The other is something called the Lexus Memory System that doesn’t just remember the driver’s seat settings, it also stores the side mirror and steering column position.

The other enhancement is additional ground clearance. That upgrade is exclusive to the off-road oriented models, namely the Overtrail and Overtrail+. Both get a 25mm (1-inch) lift, bringing clearance up from an already high 225mm to a more towering 250mm. As far as stock vehicles on the road today, the GX Overtrail and Overtrail+ has some of the highest clearances around. The additional height could also mean even greater wading depth capacity.

As for the rest of the mechanicals, it’s all unchanged. All variants of the Lexus GX use a 3.4-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 engine that punches out 349hp and 650Nm. Permanent four-wheel drive is standard, along with a limited slip differential. Overtrail and Overtrail+ models add disconnecting swaybars for greater suspension travel on tough terrain, along with a rear differential lock, among other things.

Obviously, it’s not a major update or facelift, but these small tweaks are more than welcome for our Luxury Car of the Year.
