Aftermarket firm Van-Sport--a collaboration between rally experts M-Sport and interior customization company Carlex Design--has produced unique modified Ford van-based models like the M-Sport Transit and the smaller M-Sport Transit Connect in Europe. This time, Van Sport wants to take this successful recipe off-road.
The M-Sport Ranger is the latest product formed by this team-up. While the group's previous van models had more of a WRC and touring-car design theme, this off-roader takes a different route. The standard 3.2-liter 4x4 Ranger it’s based on is already a rugged and capable vehicle to begin with, so how do you bring it to the next level? By injecting it with F-150 Raptor genes mixed with some Mad Max DNA.
It’s actually quite easy to spot the exterior custom bits since most are in matte black. Up front, the pickup gets a hood protector, a unique honeycomb grille with a pair of slim rectangular “laser” lights, and an aggressive angular lower bumper. Moving on to the sides, it has mean-looking oversized wheel-arch extensions and side step bars. At the back are an angular tailgate-mounted spoiler and rear bumpers with integrated exhaust tips that mirror the angular styling of the one in front. For extra lighting, a laser light bar installed on the roof is an available option. Being an M-Sport-branded product, this carries "M-Sport" decals in matte black on the sides and the rear.
While the exterior looks loud, the predominantly black interior is more subdued. It features a sporty re-contoured leather-wrapped M-Sport steering wheel with more prominent thumb rests. The custom-trimmed leather seats were tastefully done by Carlex Design, and are highlighted by unique patterns and stitching as well as debossed M-Sport badging to set them apart from those of the standard Ranger.
At this point, it may seem like this truck is all about looks, but that isn’t the case. This Ranger receives some upgrades to make sure its performance is worthy of its looks. Visible under the bumper is an intimidating stone guard. And if that’s not enough, a full under-tray protection kit is available. A Pedders suspension lift kit increases the vehicle’s already respectable ride height by an extra 44.5mm. The beast also comes with 18-inch Black Rhino wheels wrapped in beefy BFGoodrich All-Terrain rubber. While no upgrades were mentioned about the diesel mill, it does get a sports exhaust system.
The M-Sport Ranger will go into production in September, and become available in participating Ford dealerships in the UK and Europe. Knowing the popularity of its truck in our market, Ford Philippines could come up with something similar. Fingers crossed.
