Since its reintroduction under Ayala subsidiary ACMobility, BYD has been slowly expanding its lineup of electric vehicles in the local market. The brand started with a three-car lineup in mid-2023 before bringing in the Atto 3 in November last year. This week, it’s gearing up to launch its latest offering: the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i.

The Sealion 6 is now open for reservations in the Philippines ahead of its official debut on July 25. While don’t have pricing information yet, we can tell you a bit more about this compact crossover’s powertrain.

The Sealion 6 is essentially a plug-in hybrid, but unlike typical PHEVs, the Super DM-i technology here propels the vehicle using the electric motor instead of the combustion engine. The ‘Blade Battery’ provides all-electric range of up to 100km depending on driving conditions, and if it begins to run out of juice on the road, the engine kicks in as a range extender to recharge the battery and stretch the range up to 1,000km.
