As sure as the sky is blue, it’s another month and BYD Cars Philippines is back with another launch. This time, it’s a hybrid version of one of its fully electric vehicle: the new BYD Tang DM-i.

The new Tang DM-i joins BYD’s range-extended EV family as the newest seven-seater in the lineup and competes with the midsize crossovers and SUVs in the market. It’s got that signature BYD look, with the front end adorned with a chrome strip flanked by stylish headlights and above the wide, gaping grille. At the back, a lightbar stretches the width of the tailgate.

The highlight here, of course, is the new DM-i powertrain. It packs a 1.5-liter generator that provides power to the 21.5kWh lithium-iron phosphate BYD Blade Battery. The battery helps propel the front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that churns out a total of 267hp and 315Nm of torque.

As with all of BYD’s DM-i models, the Tang DM-i features a Type 2 charger that supports DC charging of up to 40kW, allowing recharging from 30-80% in just half an hour. It promises a maximum EV-only range of 110km and an extended range of 1,160km. Top speed is listed at 200kph and 0-100kph at 7.5sec. The vehicle also has V2L capabilities.

In true BYD fashion, the interior of the Tang DM-i gets a pair of digital displays with a massive infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It comes equipped with a full suite of advanced driver-assist systems like adaptive cruise control, front-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.
