When you think of luxury cars, there's Lexus, there's Mercedes-Benz, there's Jaguar...and then there's Cadillac, General Motors' premium brand for, um, a more mature market. There's something gangsta about this brand, precisely why superstar rappers prefer to drive around in them in music videos. Cadillac is not just luxurious, it's also a little sinister.
Perhaps aiming to increase the nefarious appeal of its brand, Cadillac has come up with this, the Elmiraj Concept. What is it? According to the press statement, this car is "a grand coupe expressing the pure enjoyment of driving and exploring new dimensions for Cadillac's ongoing expansion."
The Elmiraj is a two-door, four-passenger automobile powered by a 4.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 500hp and 678Nm.
"This concept is the second chapter--following the Ciel Concept--of our exploration of the personas of true luxury," said Clay Dean, Cadillac's executive director of advanced design. "We were influenced in particular by the 1967 Eldorado, both its actual design and the fact that in its time that car was a very stark contrast and a new direction."
One thing that's neat about this car is its 2+2 seating configuration: "The front bucket seat slides 10 inches forward, while the rear bucket seat slides four inches forward to meet the passenger, then slides him or her back into position once seated. The rear bucket seats recline for additional comfort."
Oh, and yes, the rappers won't be disappointed: The Elmiraj rolls on humongous 22-inch aluminum wheels. If this goes into production, Cadillac can put Jay-Z down for five units, minimum.
