The Changan Nevo Hunter K50 was one of the first electrified pickup trucks to hit the Philippine market, debuting with range-extended electric powertrain in April earlier this year. It went right up against the BYD Shark 6 DMO—which launched just a month prior—being the only other prominent new energy truck.

Since then, it has then taken about seven months for another electrified pickup to land in the Philippines, by way of new-brand Radar unveiling plug-in hybrid and fully electric variants of its RD6 truck. The segment is growing, albeit at a slower and more conservative pace.

It seems like Filipino car buyers still prefer their trucks with workhorse engines, and Changan Philippines may be listening. The Land Transportation Office has just published homologation papers for two diesel variants of the Hunter pickup—and yes, one of them packs a 4x4 drive system.

Both 4x2 and 4x4 Hunters will utilize the same 2.5-liter diesel mill, and it looks like these will come without turbochargers. Interestingly, both variants also come with ‘Plus’ titles, indicating that more safety features, driver assists, and premium materials could come standard on this release.

The Chinese carmaker has yet to announce or tease anything about a diesel Hunter, but a familiar engine type in a popular body style sounds like a no-brainer for an up and coming brand.
