It’s here, folks. It’s finally here. Toyota has officially unveiled the all-new Land Cruiser FJ. It’s been called all sorts of names, and we’ve seen all sorts of renders of it over the years, but now it’s finally here.
It‘s basically a miniature version of the Land Cruiser Prado—equally as boxy and retro, but way cuter than its bigger brother. The front end is like a downsized Prado, while the rear looks unique to the FJ. The spare tire is mounted at the center of the blacked-out door out back, and from this end, the FJ looks extra quirky.

Interestingly, those beefy-looking bumpers are somewhat modular. The front and rear corner bumpers are removable, segmented types, so they’re easy to repair or even customize if you so wish. Because why the heck wouldn’t you customize a baby SUV as cute as this, right?

In terms of dimensions, the Land Cruiser FJ measures 4,575mm long, 1,855mm wide, and 1,960mm tall with a 2,580mm wheelbase. For reference, that makes it just a little longer and about as wide as a Corolla Cross.
Under the hood, it’s powered by a 2TR-FE 2.7-liter gasoline engine, which is the old powertrain we had in the Fortuner. In the Land Cruiser FJ, it puts out 161hp and 246Nm of torque and is mated to Toyota’s six-speed Super ECT. Part-time four-wheel-drive is available, so in true Land Cruiser fashion, it can still go off-road.

On the inside, it all looks familiar. There’s a mix of leather bits and black plastics on the inside, with a pair of screens mounted on the dash. It feels more rugged than it does premium, and it matches the exterior vibe quite nicely. Advanced driver-assistance systems like Toyota Safety Sense are also available here.
No word yet, however, whether or not this will make it to our region. But considering how much we Filipinos love the FJ Cruiser, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that Toyota at least considers bringing this in. Surely, there’s a market for it.
