It’s been years since we last saw the Chevrolet Colorado in local showrooms. It’s a bit of a shame too given that the pickup segment is hotter than ever. We can’t help but think that we’re missing out on the all-new model, too.
The redesigned Chevrolet Colorado made its debut in August 2022. Sadly, it never made it outside of North America as General Motors shut down the Southeast Asian plant in Thailand several years ago. Still, that’s not stopping us from wanting one, especially now because of a new variant that’s been added.

Dubbed the Trail Boss, the new Colorado trim level is aimed straight at the off-road crowd. Think of it then as something in between a Hilux Conquest and the full GR-S model. It’s no Ranger Raptor rival, but that’s what the beefier ZR2 version is for.
It looks tougher than the standard models, and it’s not just for show, either. The bumpers are unpainted so there’s no need to worry about scuffing it up. It also rides on chunkier all-terrain tires that measure 32 inches and comes with 18-inch alloys. But the most important part here is the suspension. It’s actually higher off the ground compared to the other variants (except the ZR2) by two inches, raising it to 241mm.

Other off-roady bits? There’s an automatic rear locking differential, hill descent control, drive mode selector, and something called AutoTrac. It’s essentially a system that allows it to stay on four-wheel drive and lock the diffs automatically if needed.
There’s no diesel option for the Colorado Trail Boss. What it does get is a punchy 2.7-liter, four-cylinder turbopetrol that makes 310hp and 583Nm of torque. It then shifts with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Again, the odds of this or any of the new Chevrolet Colorado pickups are slim to none. These pickups are made in the US, and it’s likely it will be too expensive to bring over here. Also, the lack of a diesel option might put off a lot of customers. That said, we wouldn’t say no to a trail-ready pickup with over 300 horses and nearly 600Nm of torque.
