Corvettes are known for being the American sports car that can rival the more expensive European exotics. The 'Vette feared the most carries the legendary ZR1 moniker, last seen in 2013. This year the King of Corvettes finally returns for the 2019 model year, and this time it packs even more power.
Chevrolet has recently pulled the wraps off the 2019 Corvette ZR1 in Dubai. It is officially the fastest, most powerful, and most intimidating production Corvette in the model's 64-year history. From its exterior alone you already know this car means business.
Three massive functional air intakes dominate the front end. It features a carbon fiber hood with a central opening to clear the tall supercharger-intercooler assembly. Its side and rear styling is almost identical to the Z06, save for a few detail changes like the unique fender gill design, and the standard low wing at the rear which allows it to reach the highest possible top speed while still producing respectable downforce.
Inside it features a nicely trimmed driver-oriented cockpit. Leather seats come as standard, and it can also be ordered with suede microfiber inserts. Available options include heated and vented Nappa leather seats, competition seats, a flat bottom carbon fiber-trimmed steering wheel, a Performance Data Recorder, and a Bose premium audio system.
It’s propelled by a 6.2-liter LT5 supercharged gasoline V8 which features both direct and port injection. This mill produces an impressive 755hp and 969Nm. It can be mated to either a seven-speed manual with or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters—the first ever auto tranny to be offered in a ZR1.
Its top speed is of over 338kph, and what goes fast must definitely stop fast; this 'Vette features huge brake rotors which measure 15.5in up front and 15.3in at the rear.
For those looking for a more track-focused sports car, a ZTK Performance Package will also be available. This features an aggressive front splitter with carbon fiber end caps, an adjustable high rear wing which generates more downforce, sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 summer high-performance tires, and a specially-tuned chassis.
If you still think this sports car isn’t eye-grabbing enough, the ZR1 can be spec’d with the Sebring Orange Design Package. This includes the Sebring Orange Tintcoat exterior paint, orange brake calipers, orange splitter and rocker accent stripes, orange interior contrast stitching, orange seat belts, and bronze aluminum interior trim.
The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is expected to hit showrooms in the second quarter of 2018. Supercar manufacturers, time to step up your game, because this 'Vette has your products in its sights.
