The 458 Spider has just been officially presented here in our market, but now a faster Ferrari droptop has been announced. The hot new thing is called the Ferrari 458 Speciale A. The 'A' stands for aperta, the Italian word for "open."
Targeted at the most discerning of the already discriminating Ferrari clientele, the 458 Speciale A will be limited to only 499 units. Its aluminum retractable hardtop reduces the weight difference with the Speciale coupe to just 50kg.
Mounted behind the lucky driver is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 that Ferrari has ever put in a road car. The engine generates 597hp and 540Nm, which makes sprints from zero to 100kph take a mere three seconds. If you can find a road that lets you reach 200kph, the 458 Speciale A will carry you to that speed in 9.5 seconds.
As seen in these photos, the Speciale A is being introduced in a special triple-layer yellow livery with a Blu Nart and Bianco Avus central stripe as well as with five-spoke forged wheels in Grigio Corsa. The cabin has a similar racing-inspired look, especially the dashboard, which is finished in blue carbon fiber.
Some say this is the last special variant of the 458 before the replacement arrives as early as next year. The next Ferrari mid-engined V8 model is rumored to have a turbocharger. That would make the 458 Speciale A the last Ferrari road car with a naturally aspirated V8, and that means this could be a future collectible.
