If there’s one thing about the Ford Everest we’re often asked, it’s this: Will there be a Raptor version? For years, Ford hasn’t expressed any desire to do so, at least on record. Still, the clamor for it is there, not just here but almost everywhere else where the midsize SUV is sold.
Now, it seems that Ford is finally bowing to that request. Over in Australia, a more hardcore version of the SUV was spied recently. The folks at CarExpert spotted it, and it really looks like the Everest variant many people have wanted is finally happening.

There’s no official name for it just yet, but it appears to have an (almost) Raptor-like makeover. Because of that, the Australian publication noted that it could either be called Wildtrak X or even Raptor.
Judging by the photos, it might be more likely that it could be called Wildtrak X. The spotted test mule didn’t come with wider fenders, a signature of the performance pickup. However, it does have unique bumper designs, raised suspension, and all-terrain tires. There are also hidden LED driving lights within the grille. You can think of this then as a Raptor-lite of sorts.

Of course, Ford could surprise us all should it put a hotter engine under the hood. Over in Australia and some parts of Southeast Asia, the Raptor-badged models come with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that’s pushing 329hp and 583Nm of torque. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if it keeps the familiar 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel or stick in the 3.0-liter turbodiesel that’s available in select markets.
Since the test mule has been spotted, there is a chance that this lifted Ford Everest could make its world premiere sometime this year. Only time will tell what engine it uses and what badge Ford will place on the tailgate.
