What do Robert Downey Jr, The Godfather, and humanity’s first manned mission to the Moon have in common? They’re all younger than the Ford Mustang, of course!

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the legendary pony car, and to celebrate the occasion, Ford is rolling out a limited-edition ‘Anniversary Package’ for its current seventh-generation car. You’ll need to act fast if you want one though, because just 1,965 will be commissioned in both coupe and convertible form.

So what are you getting for your as-yet undisclosed additional amount to the standard car’s near-P4 million starting price in other markets? Well, many design elements hail back to the original car, for a start. That means redesigned badging, stripes, and a stunning set of five-spoke 20-inch alloys finished in ‘Dark Gravity Grey.’ So grey, then.

The grille has also been mesh-ified and complemented by silver nostrils (which double up as functional air intakes) and sits between smoked headlights. Plenty of red accenting has also been used throughout as it was with its great-grandfather.

Beneath all this retro goodness sits the familiar 5.0-liter V8, which should continue to send around 480hp to the rear wheels either with or without a clutch pedal.

Senior designer at Ford, Stefan Taylor, said: “The design was directly inspired by the clean silhouette of the original car. During the design process, we looked closely at the finely detailed elements of the 1965 Mustang, like the wheel arch badges, and center caps. Our focus was capturing the feel of the ’65, while also staying true to the Mustang as the modern sports car that it is.”
