It's a great time to be a pickup buyer

Finally. After more than a year waiting in anticipation, we have a specific date for the Ford Ranger Raptor's Philippine arrival. Ladies and gentlemen, mark your calendars for September 21, 2018.

Yes, in less than two weeks from now the American carmaker's latest performance pickup truck will be launched locally. Ford Philippines sent us an invitation for the event earlier today, and while it doesn't specifically name the Ranger Raptor, the e-mail's accompanying image pretty much speaks for itself.

That isn't all though. Ford says it'll be launching a "powerful duo that you’d surely want to conquer your next adventure with." Now, we're not mathematicians here, but we think a duo implies two cars: The Ranger Raptor, and what we believe could be the refreshed Ranger. Our gut feels strongly about this.

If we're right, that's a big deal. Thailand recently revealed the Ranger's new engine option—a 2.0-liter twin-turbo mill capable of 210hp and 500Nm of torque—and we're crossing our fingers that we get the same.

Of course we'll have to wait for the 21st for anything official. But if the recent launch of the new EcoSport and its new EcoBoost engine is any indication of Ford's approach to models this year, then we think the market will be pleasantly surprised.
