The GAC Aion UT has just secured a five-star safety rating from the 2026 European New Car Assessment Programme. If you saw our story on the Geely EX2’s latest safety rating, you would know that the evaluating agency has adopted updated criteria.
Still, the Aion UT managed to accumulate confident results across the new tests. GAC’s compact EV scored the highest in Crash Protection at 91%, providing robust occupant protection across all crash tests. While the Aion UT lost points for noticeably high head impact for cyclists and pedestrians, it made up for it with perfect scores in pelvis and leg impact.
The hatchback’s second-highest overall test was then in Post-Crash Safety, where it scored 88%. However, it should be noted that the Aion UT partially achieved this score with its emergency service call feature, which may not be readily available in the Philippines.

To round out the evaluation, the hatchback received 74% in Crash Avoidance and 66% in Safe Driving. The former tested its suite of advanced driver-assist features, which proved to be capable and abundant. Impressively, these functions come standard on the locally available Aion UT, which is still available at its introductory price of P998,000.
Meanwhile, its lowest score of 66% in Safe Driving was given due to the lack of physical controls and odd ergonomics inside the cabin. Top Gear Philippines managing editor Leandre Grecia touched on those in his video review, which you can watch below.
