Fresh off the launch of the M8 premium van and the M6 Pro MPV, GAC Motor Philippines is expanding its local lineup yet again with the GAC Emkoo Hybrid. This new variant of the brand’s compact crossover will make its Philippine debut at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show, happening from April 4 to 7.
Unlike the regular Emkoo, which packs a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, this incoming variant pairs a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and an electric motor in a full hybrid setup, with either propulsion source able to drive the vehicle—which means yes, the Emkoo Hybrid qualifies for number coding exemption.

According to GAC’s international website, the engine generates 138hp and 180Nm of torque, while the electric motor’s total power and torque are listed at 134kW and 300Nm, respectively. This is channeled to the wheels via a dedicated two-speed hybrid transmission, which optimizes power delivery from both engine and electric motor for the best balance between performance and fuel economy.

Speaking of fuel economy, GAC claims fuel consumption of up to 20.8km/L for the Emkoo Hybrid. For reference, when we tested the Emkoo last year, the best figures we got were 14.8km/L on the highway and 8.1km/L in the city.
We’ll know more about the local specs as well as the price when the car is launched at MIAS. In case you were wondering, the gasoline-powered Emkoo is priced at P1.298 million for the GE variant and P1.498 million for the GL spec.

Alongside the Emkoo Hybrid, GAC will also be showcasing its local lineup at MIAS. The M8 and the M6 Pro will be on display, as will the GS3 Emzoom, the GS8, and the Empow. The event will be held concurrently at two venues this year—World Trade Center and SMX Convention Center—and GAC will have a booth at both locations, so if you’ve been meaning to check out its cars, this weekend is the perfect chance to do so.
