At the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), GAC Motor Philippines made headlines with the launch of its crossover, the Emkoo. At MIAS this year, the Chinese carmaker is unveiling yet another Emkoo, but this time, it’s electrified.
Making its first local appearance is the new GAC Emkoo Hybrid, which is also the brand’s first hybrid in the market. Aesthetically, it sees no changes—it retains the crossover’s uber-stylish exterior and its comfortable and premium-looking interior. Under the hood, though, there’s quite a bit to discuss.

Powering the new Emkoo Hybrid is a 2.0-liter ATK engine that generates 140hp and 180Nm and is mated to a two-speed hybrid transmission. This powertrain is paired with an electric motor that’s capable of 180hp and 300Nm of torque. This setup is a parallel hybrid, meaning the vehicle will automatically switch between gasoline and battery power or use the two in conjunction as needed.
The Emkoo Hybrid is also equipped with advanced driver assist systems including adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keep assist.

“The launch of the GAC Emkoo Hybrid at the Philippines’ premier automotive event underscores our commitment to introducing top-tier GAC vehicles to the market,” said Astara Philippines’ GAC Motor brand head Franz Decloedt. “This hybrid model reflects GAC's forefront position in hybrid technology and highlights GAC’s dedication to providing versatile mobility solutions tailored to different lifestyles and needs.”
No prices are available yet, however, as sales will only begin in June later this year. Expect more details to be revealed as we move closer to that date.
