GAC Motor Philippines has also taken center stage at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show and pulled the drapes off a couple of interesting new models.

First up is the new GAC GS8 HEV. As many of you may know, the GS8 has been available in the market for years even from the previous generation, but it’s only now that the SUV has gotten the hybrid treatment. This new electrified model stickers for P2.488 million and comes with a P150,000 introductory discount.

In terms of design, it remains unchanged. The interior is clad in nice brown leather, but the layout also mostly remains untouched. Of course, the highlight here is the powertrain—it now gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a pair of electric motors that complete the all-wheel-drive system. The front motor puts out 180hp and 270Nm, while the rear churns out 54hp and 121Nm. Power is sent to an E-CVT.

The GS8 HEV also comes standard with advanced driver-assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. Creature comforts available also include the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the 14.6-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The second model unveiled at the show was the E8, an all-new MPV. This one, however, is only a preview, so prices and other details will be announced closer to the launch.

What we know is that this is a plug-in hybrid that promises a maximum combined range of about 1,200km. It will also have fast-charging capabilities that will allow recharging from 30 to 80% in 30 minutes. The interior also looks quite premium, with captain seats available in the second row.

It’s been a promising start to the year for GAC so far. What do you guys think of these two new hybrids? Will these be able to compete in our market?
