During the recent preview of its lineup, it wasn’t just the updated Coolray and Emgrand that the relaunched Geely Philippines showcased—the star of the show was the new Geely EX5. To those who aren’t familiar, this is the carmaker’s new EV that boasts the brand’s latest technologies.

For starters, it sits on the new Geely Electronic and Electrical Architecture 3.0 (GEEA) with the brand’s Short Blade Battery. The latter features a compact, power-dense design that allows faster charging times. Specifically, it tops up to the full range of 135km in just 10min of fast charging, and it can recharge from 10-80% in just 28min. The battery is also highly durable, having undergone extreme tests during its development.

The EX5 boasts a cell-to-body structure, meaning the EV battery itself is integrated into the chassis. This makes said chassis more robust while allowing for more space inside the cabin.

The EX5 is also powered by a 218hp, 320Nm electric motor that enables 0-100kph sprints in 6.9sec and maximum speeds of up to 175kph. We’ve not been given other mechanical details apart from what we’ve just shared, but we’ve taken a proper look at the interior.

Inside is a spacious and premium cabin with a plethora of leather and soft-touch materials. There’s plenty of amenities, including the large infotainment system that houses many of the vehicle’s controls. Here you can tweak the settings of the A/C, the seats, and the advanced driver-assist systems. The head unit is paired with a 16-speaker Flyme surround sound setup, and the system features various settings you can play around with such as zonal audio control.

The infotainment also has a voice-command function that allows users to, for example, open the sunroof just by saying ‘Hi Geely’ followed by the actual command. You can also open the trunk using this feature. Speaking of which, out back you get a lot of storage space as well. As standard, you get 302 liters, but there’s a 108-liter expansion space underneath the trunk floor. The second-row seats can also fold flat, upping the total to 1,877 liters.

Unfortunately, no prices are available just yet. We don’t know the timeline for the launch, either. However, we’ve been told that this will be launched in the Philippines soon, so we should all keep our eyes peeled. What do you guys think? Will the EX5 prove to be a strong competitor for Geely in our market?
