Just a little over five years after it launched under Sojitz, Geely is officially re-entering the Philippines under new management. As with what’s happening with a lot of carmakers these days, its mother company has taken over, and it’s entering a new era in our market.

Geely Philippines will initially have three offerings upon launch: the facelifted Coolray and the new Emgrand, as well as the GX3 Pro. We were able to take a quick look at it during the preview prior to the launch, so we’ll discuss the two updated models in a succeeding story. In the said preview, the brand also showcased the EX5—an EV that will grace the local lineup sometime this year.

In fact, Geely has revealed that it will launch one new model every quarter in 2025. Its Philippine lineup will comprise combustion-engined cars, plug-in hybrids, and battery EVs. The Chinese carmaker will be looking to improve its sales in the market in the coming year: While it has not disclosed its 2024 sales figures and has relinquished its membership in the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI), in 2023, it took the ninth spot in the CAMPI sales rankings with 6,852 units sold.

To boost local sales and strengthen after-sales service, Geely is setting up a 4,700sqm warehouse in Cabuyao, Laguna—larger than the previous facility. It is also promising to readily available stock of maintenance parts, with nationwide express delivery to cater to customers across the country. Come the second quarter of 2025, it will have parts warehouses, too, in Cebu and Mindanao.

At least elsewhere in the world, more people bought Geelys in 2024 than in the previous year, with 2.17 million units sold. Sales outside of China reached 403,923 units, marking 53% year-on-year growth, while electric vehicles reached sales of 888,234 units, which represents 92% improvement of 2023 performance.
