Upon the relaunch under new management, Geely Philippines is starting its new stint with two updated models: the new Coolray and Emgrand.
Let’s take a closer look at these two, starting with the more popular Coolray, which isn’t entirely new. We say so because it supposedly made its debut in the Philippines back in November, but it has flown under the radar since. If you haven’t seen it until now, that’s okay.

The facelifted Coolray boasts a more aggressive-looking design. The front fascia is adorned with new LED headlights, a wider gaping grille, and larger fake vents on the side. At the rear, Geely has ditched the chrome strip on the tailgate and replaced it with the lightbar that now stretches the width of the vehicle. Underneath, there’s textured trim on the bumper as well as red accents on the air diffusers to match the lighting at the back.

Inside, the center console has been reworked to open up more space and storage for everyday carry items. There are still buttons below the head unit and the A/C vents, although they now look less spaceship-y. The interior boasts some red contrast accents like before, but the trim seem a bit brighter. There’s also a new head unit that—get this—now has Apple CarPlay connectivity.
Of course, the biggest change here is the new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine under the hood. It’s up by one cylinder from its predecessor, while output is down by 3hp to 172hp but up by 35Nm of torque at 290Nm. According to New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) figures, the Coolray and its new engine can do around 17km/L, which makes this a darn good upgrade over the old powertrain.

Moving on to the Emgrand, this one sees no aesthetic changes. It’s still the same Philippine-spec model as before, not the facelifted version we saw in China last year. However, it does get more power from its 1.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine. Specifically, output is up from 102hp to 120hp in this new model.
The cabin is the same—no cosmetic updates whatsoever. That said, customers will like the addition of Apple CarPlay connectivity to the infotainment system.
As far as prices go, the new Coolray will sticker in the Philippines from P1,139,000 to P1,329,000. The Emgrand, meanwhile, will go for P949,000. The Coolray is currently being offered with a P70,000 discount, and the Emgrand has a P40,000 price reduction at the moment.
To complete its initial model offerings, Geely also has the GX3 Pro as part of the lineup. It starts at P729,000 with a discount of P60,000.
