In case you missed it, Geely Philippines is now under direct control from the mothership in China. A few months ago, it rolled out several refreshed models, along with a few of its plans for later this year.

To keep the momentum going, the company has launched two new important models for the local market. These are the EX5, previewed earlier this year and the brand’s first EV for the Philippines, and the Okavango Elite, an update of a popular model.

Geely EX5

For the EX5, there are two variants on offer, while the Okavango Elite only gets one. With the introduction of these models, most of the local Geely lineup has been revitalized.

Starting with the EX5, the variants on offer are the Pro and Max, the latter being coming with a higher specification. Size-wise, it’s somewhere in between the subcompact and compact crossover category, measuring in at 4,615mm long, 1,901mm wide, 1,670mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. Ground clearance ranges from 145mm to 173mm, depending on the variant chosen.

The Max model benefits from 19-inch alloy wheels, along with automatic high beams, panoramic sunroof, and power tailgate. It’s also the only one with advanced driver assists such as adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking for front and rear, lane change assist, and lane keep assist, to name a few.

But regardless of trim level chosen, the powertrain is the same. The EX5 uses a single electric motor hooked up to a 60.22kWh battery pack. Output is rated at 215hp and 320Nm powering the front wheels. There is no all-wheel drive option for the Philippine-spec EX5. As for range, it hovers between 425km to 430km.

At first glance it appears nothing has changed with Geely’s popular seven-seater. However, a closer look revealed a new grille, now with vertical chrome slats. Inside, the leatherette seats now has a quilted pattern for a more premium look. Also, the digital instrument display was given a refresh.

Since there’s only one variant offered, the Elite comes fully loaded from the start. That means a large panoramic sunroof, along with a barrage of advanced driver assist systems, and six airbags. Sadly, there is no mention if the infotainment system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and/or Android Auto.

Carried over from the pre-update model is its powertrain. That means a turbocharged 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine mated to a 48v mild-hybrid system. It’s worth pointing out that it managed to get the green plate exemption despite that. As for power, it’s still rated at 188hp and 300Nm, and it still shifts with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
